Feedbacks QUEST addressed the model-based quantification of various biogeochemical feedbacks influencing the climate over the past 800 thousand years and into the 21st century. It has generated several provocative research articles, addressing ‘big questions’ in Earth system science, such as indications that today’s climate is more sensitive to CO2 changes than in the (deep) past, as a result of the present-day ocean chemistry, and an assessment of the role of atmospheric N2 in the radiative balance of early Earth.
